Malaga Cove

Malaga Cove

Mediterranean charm meets coastal elegance

About Malaga Cove

Malaga Cove is where the story of the Palos Verdes Peninsula begins. When the Olmsted Brothers designed this community in the 1920s, they put the Mediterranean-style plaza right here — and nearly a century later, it's still the heart of PVE.

The architecture tells you everything. Spanish tile roofs, arched colonnades, the fountain plaza with bougainvillea climbing every surface. The homes follow suit — this is where you find some of the most architecturally distinctive properties on the Peninsula, from original 1920s estates to tasteful contemporary builds that respect the neighborhood's character.

Walking Malaga Cove feels different from anywhere else on the Hill. The streets curve deliberately, the trees are mature, and there's a formality to the landscaping that gives way to wild coastal bluffs just a few blocks west. It's a neighborhood that takes itself seriously without being stuffy.

Real Estate

$2.6M
Median Price

Malaga Cove tends to run slightly higher than Lunada Bay on a per-square-foot basis because of the architectural character and the plaza walkability premium. The homes here have more design pedigree — you'll find Olmsted-era originals, Wallace Neff influences, and some of the best mid-century modern work on the Peninsula. Inventory is always tight.

Schools

Malaga Cove feeds into the PVHS Sea Kings track — same pipeline as Lunada Bay. The elementary school is walking distance from the plaza, and the parent community is engaged in a way that goes beyond fundraising.

Where to Eat & Shop

Malaga Cove Plaza is the original commercial center of Palos Verdes Estates — designed in 1924 as part of the master plan. The Mediterranean architecture, the fountain, the library — it all holds together as a piece of civic design that most cities would kill for.

Malaga Cove Ranch Market

Neighborhood deli, bakery, wine bar, and specialty market since 1997. Hot and cold deli counter, large wine selection, catering for events.

Neptune's Frozen Treats

New

Opened late 2025. Katherine Kemps continues a family ice cream tradition going back to 1914. Rotating flavors of frozen custard, gelato, and sorbet.

Terra Mia Woodfire Kitchen

Wood-fired Italian that competes with anything on the westside. Top-ranked on Yelp for PVE.

Yellow Vase

French-California cafe, florist, and bakery all in one. Brioche French toast is worth the wait on weekends. Two PVE/RPV locations.

daily: 7am-4pm

Yellow Vase is the anchor — French-California cafe, florist, and bakery that I take every new client to. Neptune's Frozen Treats opened late 2025 and quickly became a post-walk tradition. Terra Mia does wood-fired Italian that holds its own against anything on the westside.
